This year is the 40th anniversary of when Caitlyn Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympic Games. It was a historic moment in United States Olympic history and to commemorate the occasion, Sports Illustrated has asked Jenner to appear on the cover of one of their upcoming issues.
Us Weekly’s Dana Rose Falcone had a source confirm the news on Wednesday that the shoot will be a bit different than you’d expect as Jenner will be wearing “nothing but an American flag and her Olympic medal.”
The source told Us that Jenner is happy about the opportunity: “She’s excited about that.”
Jenner won the medal in Montreal at the 1976 Summer Games as she posted 8,618 points, which was a world record at the time. The decathlon is used to help determine the best all-around athlete in the world.
Last year, Jenner became an openly transgender woman and was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2015 ESPYs.
