Roger Federer defeated longtime rival Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open in 5 sets, for what was one of the most highly anticipated tennis matches of all time. It was Federer’s 18th Grand Slam victory (most of any male tennis player ever), and at the age of 35, many consider him the greatest male tennis player ever. Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus in the Australian Open in straight sets. It was her 7th Aussie Open victory and 23rd Grand Slam title, the most all time. She’s widely considered the greatest female tennis player ever, currently ranked number 1 on the world at age 35.

The Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 Finals lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Warriors had set the record for best regular season record in NBA history before falling to the Cavaliers at home in game 7 of the finals. Curry was voted the league’s first unanimous MVP.

The Clemson Tigers got revenge by knocking off unbeaten Alabama in a rematch of last year’s great national championship game. The final play from scrimmage was a touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson to Hunter Renfrow with 1 second remaining. It was Clemson’s 2nd national title, first since 1981.

Villanova defeated the overall 1 seeded, North Carolina Tar Heels in one of the greatest college basketball games ever. Marcus Paige tied the game for UNC with an off-centered leaping 3 pointer with 4.7 seconds to go before Kris Jenkins hit a 3 at the buzzer to win. It was their 2nd NCAA title, first since 1985.

Super Bowl LI enjoyed the greatest comeback in Super Bowl History by the Greatest Quarterback of All Time. The New England Patriots overcame a 28-3 deficit to win 34-28 in overtime against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. It was also the first overtime in Super Bowl history. The game MVP Tom Brady, set a record for passing yards in the Super Bowl and won the 5th ring of his career. Coach Bill Belichick also won his 5th ring as a head coach.

Leicester City overcame the greatest odds in the history of sports at 5000-1 to win the Premier League in one of the greatest underdog stories in all of sports history. You’d have got better odds on Kim Kardashian becoming president of the U.S by 2020. Bookmakers were offering odds of 2000-1 on Kardashian becoming leader of the U.S. in four years time, while the Cleveland Brown’s rather unlikely admission was set at odds of 200-1.
