Tad Boyle Receives Contract Extension
In only his second year as Colorado head basketball coach, Tad Boyle has already earned himself a contract extension.
The CU Board of Regents approved extensions for both Tad Boyle, and women’s head basketball coach Linda Lappe, today during their regular meeting. The contract extension goes all the way through the year 2016 and Boyle has the potential to earn bonuses based on performance of their players in the classroom and on the court.
Boyle is only 38-21 as head coach but has revived a struggling program and has rejuvenated a lackluster fan base. Last season he led the Buffs to a school record 24 wins including an NIT semi-finals appearance in New York. After losing a talented class to graduation and the draft, which included current NBA players Alec Burks and Cory Higgins, Boyle still has the team in contention at 14-7 (6-3) this season.
Colorado has invested a lot in the basketball program within the last year, including building a new practice facility that opened this past summer. This new investment has allowed the coaching staff to bolster their recruiting pitches to potential student athletes and this has correlated to a top-25 class produced by both coaches. Boyle’s current 2012 recruiting class ranks as the 21st best in the country.
Both of these coaches are producing winning teams, and with the incoming recruits next season, it’s hard to see this trend changing anytime soon.
