Colorado Buffaloes head basketball coach Tad Boyle just brought in the best recruiting class that CU has ever had. The six-man class included two four-star recruits, Josh Scott and Xavier Johnson, and was rated as one of the top 25 classes in the country.
Well Boyle is at it again; he just secured a big verbal for the 2013 class.
Point guard Jaron Hopkins just announced his verbal commitment to Colorado, making him the first member of CU’s 2013 recruiting class. He had his official visit to CU this weekend and has already made up his mind.

Hopkins, from Mesa, Arizona, is rated as a 4-star recruit and the 107th best player in the country according to Rivals. He’s a big point guard, standing at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds, and has the ability to defend all three back-court positions.
He’s an explosive talent who has a great skill set that will translate well to the college level. Hopkins is great in transition and has tremendous athletic ability to get to the rim with ease. Once he gets to the rim, he has the ability to either dunk over a defender or make an acrobatic lay-in. Either way, he is tough to stop once he gets in the key.
In the half court, Hopkins is quick off the dribble and sets up his teammates with nifty passes. Off the dribble, he has a knack of pulling up in the lane for a runner or a floater over the defenders. On the other end, he anticipates the passing lanes well and has the natural instincts to become a very disruptive defender.
He’ll fit into the Buffs offense well as they like to play in transition, which suits his game perfectly. Colorado can never have too many athletic guards, so Hopkins will be a nice addition to an already strong backcourt.
Great get for Boyle and the Buffs as they continue to be strong players on the recruiting landscape.
