Football Depth Chart Released
Head football coach Jon Embree released the post-camp depth chart on Monday and, true to his word, he will be starting the players who performed the best in practice regardless of class.
Three true freshman will be in the starting lineup for the Buffs’ first game Sept. 3 at Hawaii with the possibility of a fourth.
Freshman Will Oliver and Darragh O’Neil are listed in the top spots for placekicker and punter respectively. Another freshman listed atop the depth chart is Greg Henderson who will be holding down the right cornerback position.
One other freshman, Tyler McCulloch, is listed as a co-starter at the X wide receiver position alongside senior Toney Clemons. If McCullough gets the starting nod he will become the first freshman in school history to start a season opener at wideout.
Henderson will be paired up with senior Travis Sandersfeld as they try to fill the roles departed by NFL draftees Jimmy Smith and Jalil Brown. The pair will be tested early and often as they face the reigning number one pass attack in the country in Hawaii and the pass happy Pac 12 conference teams.
Looking at the rest of the depth chart, there are some interesting changes.
At running back redshirt freshman Tony Jones is listed as Rodney Stewart’s back-up. Behind senior Tyler Hansen is Nick Hirschman and then walk on freshman John Schrock.
The depth chart is always changing but these are the players that Embree believes in the most to get it done on the field come Sept. 3. It will be up to these players to try and break their 18 game road losing streak.
