Love, Beasley not kind to Houston

The Rockets embarrassed themselves and their family with a disgraceful third quarter performance yesterday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

After a competitive first half, the Rockets defense gave up 42 points in the third quarter. Despite Timberwolves reserve, Wesley Johnson’s best attempt to provide the Rockets with a win by turning the ball over and playing poorly, the team lost decisively 120-108.

The team was carved up by the forward tandem of Michael Beasley and Kevin Love. They combined for 65 points and 10 boards.

Both set the tone and led the charge.

Ricky Rubio is getting better every game and won the point guard battle against Kyle Lowry.

Kevin Martin was the lone bright spot, chipping in 29 points. But Martin needs to do a better job of showing up in fourth quarter.

Lowry is still in a shooting slump. He is one of the Houston’s best players. Lowry needs to play better in order for this team to consistently compete.

The Rockets have won 10 of their last 13 games but need to step-up the defensive intensity to secure a playoff spot as the February schedule gets progressively stiffer.

It begins with the San Antonio Spurs tonight, who definitely present a challenge.

Winning on the road in San Antonio is and always has been a tough proposition.

If guarding against forwards becomes a problem, it is not a good time to have it. The team faces Tim Duncan and the T-Wolves forward tandem again just this week.

The Rockets are not a team that is talented enough to coast to any victories, no matter the opponent. But if the team works hard and plays hard they can beat any team in the league.
