The Houston Rockets Are Still Interested In Pau Gasol
Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

In early December the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Hornets, and Houston Rockets executed a three-team deal that would have sent Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Goran Dragic, and a 2012 first-round draft pick to the Hornets, Pau Gasol to the Rockets, and Chris Paul to the Lakers. Now, as we all know, David Stern nixed that trade and Paul was eventually traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. But after the trade was shot down, and Lamar Odom was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks because his feelings were hurt, some people around the league still felt that the Lakers would deal Gasol to the Rockets. Gasol clearly knew that the Lakers wanted to trade and it seemed that the Rockets wanted Gasol as they were willing to give up two very good players just to get him.

Ever since that day there hasn’t really been much talk between the two teams and it was unsure if the Rockets were even interested in Gasol anymore. Well according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports the Rockers are still interested in Gasol and would be willing to give up Kevin Martin and Luis Scola to get him. According toWojnarowski though the Lakers would not be willing to deal Gasol unless they could somehow fix their point guard problem in the deal.

The Lakers would however do a deal if the Rockets are willing to include Kyle Lowry in the deal but, according to the report, Rockets GM Daryl Morey isn’t trading Lowry. So the likelihood of this deal getting done, without the inclusion of Lowry, is minimal but you can never rule out Mitch Kupchak’s ability to get a huge deal done.Kupchak has a knack for talking slick and getting what he wants out of  deal. If the Lakers can get a third team involved and sweeten the deal with a few draft picks and cash then the Rockets stance on Lowry could change.

But one thing that is bound to happen is this, change. Come late March (when the NBA trade deadline has passed) the Lakers current roster will not be in tact and their will be changes made to it. Kupchak, as well as the front office, knows that this current Laker roster is not enough to compete for an NBA title and Lakers owner Jerry Buss wants nothing more than to win another title. Another NBA title would mean tying the Boston Celtics record of 17 and cementing the Lakers as the greatest franchise in NBA history as that is pretty much the only record left that the Lakers have not attained.
