Phoenix Suns Close To Making Steve Nash Available
Steve Nash is one of the greatest point guards of all time and one of the best players the Phoenix Suns have ever had. But as the Indianapolis Colts are learning sometimes it’s just better to part ways and pursue another path which is exactly what the Phoenix Suns are very close to doing. According to a report by Sam Amick of SI.com (per RealGM.com) the Phoenix Suns are extremely close to putting Nash on the trading block. Nash is a free-agent this summer so it would make sense that the Suns would deal him so they can get something for him instead of losing him with no compensation in return.
“One executive whose team has had serious interest in Nash in the past told SI.com that the Suns are “as close as they’ve ever been” to realizing that they need to strongly consider a trade. I have no idea what the club will eventually do if a bunch of offers are thrown in their face,” Nash said, “but I feel like I’m not nervous about [the trade deadline] and I’m not thinking about — what’s the word? — I’m not anticipating anything to happen. I feel like I made a commitment and I feel like I owe it to my teammates — the city, the fans, the club — to play it out and to play as hard as I can.”
“Our position has been the same all along, which is I’ve told him that he has earned the right to stay with our franchise as long as he wants provided that he believes in what we’re doing, and provided that he’s all in and wants to do that.” Nash has been defying all basketball logic this season shooting an astonishing 56.3% from the field this season, third in the NBA. Those numbers are even more staggering when you factor in that the top two in field goal percentage this season (Tyson Chandler .694, and Tiago Splitter .627) are big men who take their shots from about 5 feet from the basket. Meanwhile Nash is shooting from all over the field and doing it efficiently.
Nash also leads the league in assists, 10.5 per game, and is also shooting 44% percent from the three-point line. Nash is just an all-around player who can pretty much do anything. Nash will give you 110% every night and if the Suns decided to trade him almost any team in the NBA could benefit by his addition to the team. What’s the only thing holding back the Suns from trading Nash you may ask. Well it’s the fact that Nash has showed no interest in going to another team and per many former teammates and colleagues (most notably former Suns GM Steve Kerr) Nash would never ask for a trade.
Here is what Kerr had to say about Nash and the possibility of him asking for a trade (Per Arizona Sports), ”I don’t even think it’s a consideration with Steve because he’s so dedicated to his teammates, to his coaches, to the fans,” Kerr told Arizona Sports 620′s Doug and Wolf. “It never even enters his mind to go in there. It’s just not who he is.” Not only is Nash one of the best point guards in the NBa he’s also one of the classiest.
