Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose found out last week after after an MRI that he has no structural damage in his back and was told yesterday he should be able to play again soon. Unfortunately, he will still be missing at least one more game.

Rose will have to sit out tonight when the Bulls take on the Sacramento Kings at the United Center in Chicago.

“He didn’t practice, but he’s feeling better,” head coach Tom Thibodeau said this morning.

According to ESPN, a back specialist told Rose yesterday that the MRI revealed a muscular issue and that it is crucial he rest as much as possible while continuing therapy.

“It was good news,” Thibodeau continued. “He’s just got to continue to do the things he’s supposed to do.”

Rose has missed the last two games with back spasms. The Bulls crushed the Charlotte Bobcats 95-64 but lost against the Boston Celtics by four. Rose desperately wants to get back playing and help his team win as the gap between the first and second seed in the Eastern Conference continues to shrink due to the Miami Heats’ winning streak.

“It’s not just his decision,” Thibodeau said, according to ESPN. “There’s a lot of people that are weighing in on it. We have a great medical staff, great training staff. Their input is critical. His input is critical. We’re certainly not going to do anything that could jeopardize him being hurt further. He’s feeling better … and we’ll just go from there.”

In 23 games this season, Rose is averaging, 22.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field in 35.5 minutes.
