Riot Cops Disperse Nike Fanatics at Florida Mall
Over the course of this NBA season Nike has released several bizarre new shoe concepts– each stretches boundaries in terms of weight, design, and wackiness.
Every time a new shoe is released a certain segment of our population goes nuts and riot police are called to the scene.
Riot police you say? Yes, riot police.
According to reports, more than 100 sheriffs deputies outfitted in full riot gear broke up an unruly crowd at the Florida Mall outside Orlando yesterday evening. The crowd had gathered to have a chance at buying one of the limited-edition shoes released by Nike prior to this weekend’s NBA All-Star Game.
The shoes are valued at $220 per pair.
These “glow-in-the-dark” pairs of Nikes have brought people to a fevered pitch and drawn crowds across the country.
The incident reported last evening in Orlando will not be the last we will hear of today. For some reason, every time Nike releases a limited-edition shoe, people’s inhibitions and reason flies out the window.
I just can’t understand how a shoe could make me want to riot and attack police armed with batons and nightsticks.
Am I missing something here?
