Ricky Rubio May Have A Torn ACL
The last thing you want to see when you are watching an NBA game is a young phenom like Ricky Rubio suffer a possible season-ending injury, but that may have happened on Friday. Late in the fourth quarter, with the Timberwolves up by one, Rubio tried to trap the Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant but instead collided with him, and immediately falling to the floor in pain.
Rubio immediately grabbed his knee and grimaced in pain and had to be helped off the floor by teammates. Per a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Rubio will have an MRI on his left knee tomorrow morning but Timberwolves officials are fearing that Rubio has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, this according to a league source who informed Yahoo! Sports. The same source, who was briefed on the situation, had this to say, “Possible ACL. We’ll know more after the MRI. … There’s a lot of worry right now.”
If Rubio does in fact have an ACL tear he would be done for the season and it would deal a crushing blow to the Timberwolves chances of making the playoffs. Rubio has played a huge role in the Timberwolves resurgence this season, and has helped them to a 20-21 record, just one game back of the eight and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Rubio is averaging 10.5 points, 8.2 assists, and 2.2 steals per game this season.
