Steve Nash open to joining Miami Heat in offseason
Veteran guard Steve Nash is open to taking his talents to South Beach this offseason, a move that would add a whole new dynamic to the already championship-contending Miami Heat. Pairing Nash with the Big 3 of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh is a scary, but realistic possibility.
Nash talked about his plans in the offseason on the “Dan Patrick Show” Thursday, saying he would listen to the Heat but was also open to returning to the Phoenix Suns if they make an effort to put talent around him. From Slamonline.com:
Nash made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show today, and said that if Miami made him an offer, he’d listen very carefully:
“I’d listen,” Steve Nash said. […] “I love what they’re doing there. A lot of people don’t like them because they put all that talent together.”
“But they’re professional, they play hard, they play together. Their coaching staff has done a great job. So, I have a tremendous amount of respect for them, and I would definitely listen.”
Steve Nash also said that he thinks the Phoenix Suns are willing to spend and make moves to improve the roster, so that he can have a legitimate shot at his first NBA championship. Nash — though still obviously brilliant at his advanced age — doesn’t have a lot of time left to be playing at such a high level.
Nash is averaging 12.9 points and a league-leading 11.2 assists for the 25-26 Suns. The 38 year old veteran has been in the league for 16 seasons, including the past eight with the Suns. Nash has been a stark contrast to many other superstars who have bolted from losing teams, instead being extremely loyal despite still looking for his first championship. By joining the Heat in the offseason, Nash would be thrust into a great opportunity for his first ring (pending a miracle from the Suns this year).
The Heat have not had a steady option at point guard since the formation of the Big 3, with Mario Chalmers and rookie Norris Cole handling the duties this season.
