Knicks PG Jeremy Lin Needs Surgery; Likely Out for Season
Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE

After a tremendous, logic-defying season in the Big Apple, reports have surfaced that New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin has a torn meniscus in his right knee which will require surgery, and could force him to miss the rest of the 2012 NBA season.

Lin will miss a minimum of six weeks according to this report, and given this, may not see anymore action for the Knicks as they try to get back into the mix for the eighth-and-final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

It’s a tough break for Jeremy Lin, who has seen his ups and downs over the past few months, from the intense scrutiny and media attention surrounding Linsanity, to insensitive comments from certain members of the sports media, and the inevitable crash back down to earth in recent weeks as things calmed.

If Lin doesn’t play again this season, his numbers still suggest a bright future ahead. Over the course of 35 games, the Harvard graduate averaged 14.6 points, 6.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 44.6 percent from the field, 32 percent from three and a solid 79.8 percent from the line.

Even if Lin isn’t able to make it back this season– and if the Knicks miss the playoffs yet again– fans can rest assured that brighter days are ahead. If Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony and Lin can all manage to be healthy at the same time, the moments of brilliance we saw this season when this was briefly the case could become the norm rather than the exception.

It’s a sure thing the Knicks will also be active during the off-season and work to add a missing piece which could help them get over the hump and become one of the Eastern Conference’s players once again.

Don’t worry Spike Lee, your day will eventually come.
