NBA Playoff Preview: Chicago Bulls vs New York Knicks
After watching that Bulls-Knicks game Sunday, I can’t help but be reminded of their past rivalry. The Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks have a storied past. We all remember the Jordan Era amidst the 90′s, alongside Patrick Ewing’s many failed attempts at an NBA crown. However, over time it became one of the best, and most heated rivalries in NBA history, and it’s only about to get better.
Currently, the Chicago Bulls are No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the New York Knicks rest comfortably in the No. 8 spot. So, if the season ended today, these two would be battling in the first round. It would easily be one of the best playoff first round match-ups in NBA history. I am talking about a Knicks team that truly hasn’t found themselves until recently. New York is a team that would easily be in the top 4-5 in the east had Jeremy Lin been on board since day one. He wasn’t and the Knicks struggled.
When healthy, the Bulls and Knicks match-up very well:
Point Guard
Derrick Rose vs Jeremy Lin
Shooting Guard
Rip Hamilton vs J.R. Smith
Small Forward
Luol Deng vs Carmelo Anthony
Power Forward
Carlos Boozer vs Amare Stoudemire
Center
Joakim Noah vs Tyson Chandler
X-Factor 3-Point Shooter
Kyle Korver vs Steve Novak
Can you imagine these teams at full strength? Derrick Rose vs Jeremy Lin…Melo against the Bulls tough defense…Tyson Chandler trying to prove himself to a city that never accepted him in Chicago…And of course, Knicks fans have always held a grudge against Chicago for the obvious…
It is no longer 1990 and the Chicago Bulls no longer have Michael Jordan. It will be amazing to see these two combatants fight it out in the NBA Playoffs once again. The NBA just isn’t the same when the Knicks are bad.
