Richard Hamilton, Chicago Bulls get revenge on New York Knicks
The Chicago Bulls came out with a chip on their shoulder and never looked back, blowing past the New York Knicks 98-86. Veteran guard Richard Hamilton led the way for the Bulls with 20 points with all-star forward Luol Deng adding 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulls bounced back after a heartbreaking loss to Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls missed four consecutive free throws in the loss, opening the door for Anthony’s three-pointer to send the game into overtime. The Knicks forward added to his impressive performance with a game-winner in overtime, finishing with a season-high 43 points in the victory. The loss spoiled the return of reigning MVP Derrick Rose, who had missed the previous 12 games with a groin injury. Rose injured his ankle in the loss and did not play in Tuesday’s victory.
The Bulls trailed 25-23 at the end of the first but used a 25-10 second quarter to take a 12 point lead into halftime. Hamilton scored 18 of his 20 points in the third quarter and the Bulls never looked back, improving to 44-14 on the season. Hamilton added some much-needed firepower to the Bulls offense, which has been stagnant at times without Rose. The veteran provides a spark on the break as well as another ball-handler for a lineup that features a shoot-first point guard rotation of C.J. Watson and John Lucas III. Chicago also got great production off the bench from sharpshooter Kyle Korver, who contributed on both ends with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 23 minutes.
Anthony led the Knicks with 29 points in the loss, with Tyson Chandler chipping in with 10 points and 15 rebounds against his former team. New York was without point guard Jeremy Lin and forward Amar’e Stoudemire, who are both sidelined with injuries.
The game was a potential preview of the playoffs with Chicago and New York sitting in the 1 and 8 seeds in the Eastern Conference respectively.
