Dwyane Wade Thinks NBA Players Should Be Paid For Playing In Olympics
Thanks to Dwyane Wade, we all have a new reason to hate him and the Miami Heat. On Wednesday, Wade said that he thinks NBA players should be paid for playing in the Olympics. His quote:
It’s a lot of things you do for the Olympics — a lot of jerseys you sell,” Wade said after the Heat’s practice Wednesday in advance of Thursday’s game against Chicago. “We play the whole summer. I do think guys should be compensated. Just like I think college players should be compensated as well. Unfortunately, it’s not there. But I think it should be something, you know, there for it.”
Something tells me that this is not going to go over well. Representing your country should be the only payment the players need. Not everyone is picked to represent the USA against the rest of the world in basketball. Suck it up and play, Dwyane. You don’t need to get paid to be a member of the team. If you don’t like it, don’t play. There are plenty of hungry guys that would kill to play in the Olympics.
This is piggybacked off of Ray Allen’s belief that they should be paid, so Wade isn’t the only guy. However, Allen’s career is nearly over. He probably is done playing in the Olympics. Dwyane Wade isn’t. He’s expected to be a key member of the team this summer and probably down the road. These comments aren’t going to win him any fans.
Hey, at least LeBron James thinks the honor is enough. Maybe he isn’t the bad guy in Miami.
