Boston Celtics Ready To Make A Run At Championship
The Boston Celtics that showed up against the Atlanta Hawks last night look as though they are ready for a championship run. This one could be the last chance with their big three of, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Celtic Legend & captain, Paul Pierce.
The Celtics blew by Atlanta with a 101-79 victory to take a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven playoff series
Pierce showed up last night, and played like a man half his age of 34. Pierce was 10-13 including 4-6 from deep. He finished the game with a game high of 24 points , four boards and two blocked shots. Pierce did all that in just under 17 minutes of playing time.
The real story of the game however, was Rajon Rondo. He finished the game scoring 20 points with 16 assists. The 26 year-old point guard shot 8-11 from the floor, sinking a pair from deep to tie a career high. This comes just two nights after Rondo had a triple-double to help beat the Hawks in overtime.
Pierce is hoping that the Celts can end the series during the next game, and give the aging ball club a much needed break.
”The NBA is a weird league, and one game could give a team confidence,” said Pierce, who tripped over a teammate’s foot in the shootaround and aggravated his left knee when he came off a screen in the game. Pierce limped off the court after aggravating his left knee midway through the second quarter, but he returned for the start of the third. ”We hope that we can take them and advance in the series in the next game.”
I wouldn’t be to concerned about Pierce though. He was jumping around cheering on his teammates by night end.
The Celtics shot a ridiculous 64 percent in the first half and finished off the game shooting, a still outstanding, 52 percent.
If they can keep this up, they should be able to make a run against the NBA favorites in, LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
