New York Knicks Plan To Bring Back Mike Woodson
Despite the New York Knicks losing to the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the NBA Playoffs to clinch the series, the Knicks still have some good news that will come out of it. Interim head coach Mike Woodson was informed prior to Wednesday’s loss to the Heat that he will back with the team as the new head coach of the Knicks.
Although, Woodson denied any type of deal was happening, the team is expected to announce the new contract for the Knicks in the near future. This concludes the idea that the Knicks will pursue 11-time NBA champion Phil Jackson. Jackson may have been offered a deal close to $50 million. However, Jackson did not see a superstar on the team that he wanted to coach,
Since former head coach Mike D’Antoni was fired March 14, Woodson and the Knicks were 18-6 and made a big run into the playoffs but got the unlucky draw of having to play the expected Eastern Conference Champions in the Heat. Regardless of the luck of the draw, Woodson was able to lead the Knicks to their first playoff win in almost 13 games.
Bringing back Woodson for the 2012-13 season is just the first of many decisions the Knicks will have to make. They will have to deal with the possibility of J.R. Smith, Steve Novak among others leaving the Knicks bench. Smith could possibly be heading back to the Denver Nuggets and Novak might get paid the bigger bucks for his three-point services.
In any case, Woodson returning is a great turn of events for the Knicks.
