What’s the wait? Milwaukee Bucks must extend Jennings ASAP
It’s August 9th, 2012 and all’s quiet on the Brandon Jennings contract extension front. In late June/early July rumors surfaced that Jennings was open to a contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks and General Manager John Hammond reciprocated the interest.
Jennings will be 23 heading into the 2012-’13 NBA season and entering his fourth year in the league. He boasts career averages of: 16.8 ppg/5.4 apg/3.5 rpg and shoots 39.3% from the floor, 34.5% from behind the arc and 81.1% from the charity stripe.
Brandon has showed steady improvement in his game and most importantly his shot selection from season to season. He can now be counted on as an established veteran, leader and a franchise cornerstone.
Jennings appears to embrace the Milwaukee community. He has done regular charitable work, routinely makes appearances throughout the city of Milwaukeee every summer- most notably at Summer Fest- and hosts an annual local basketball camp for youths.
Brandon has also tweeted recently about house hunting in Milwaukee and professing his love affair for Milwaukee restaurants. It doesn’t exactly appear that #3 is waiting for the first ticket out of town.
Jennings is a charasmatic and affable young man who embraces the game of basketball. He’s exactly the type of player you want to build your basketball team around.
The #10 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft boasts sizzling speed, superior ball handling skills, keeps the turnovers down, looks to set up his teammates first and has the ability to score 20 a night.
The more experience Jennings gets, the better his overall game will become. The sky is the limit and there should be multiple all-star game appearances awaiting Jennings in his future.
Whenever a franchise has an opportunity to build their team around a talented, established point guard who has a burning desire to win, you do so.
Jennings isn’t without weaknesses. Brandon needs to improve his shooting, finishing at the rim and his overall efficiency. He is still rather immature and talks before thinking on occasion. The kid wears his heart on his sleeve, which can be construed as either a pro or a con.
There’s no reason to believe that Jennings won’t improve in those areas and expand his overall basketball repertoire. His work ethic has never been questioned and the kid loves the game. He plays with an attitude and a chip on his shoulder that you can’t help but admire.
Brandon Jennings, the owner of a 55-point game and a triple-double in his short NBA career thus far, has shown enough ability and flashes of greater potential in his first three years in Milwaukee to warrant an extension.
It’s time for the Milwaukee Bucks to pony up the cash for the former McDonald’s high school All-American to secure Brandon Jennings’ immediate future as the face of the Milwaukee Bucks franchise.
