Derrick Rose is supposedly recovering well from his torn ACL and the Chicago Bulls star is chomping at the bit to play basketball again. However, that might not be for awhile and it could be well after Rose thinks he’s ready. Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf said that Rose will not play until he’s 100 percent healthy.
The big question about this is the 100 percent healthy. Does Derrick Rose get to say he’s good to go or does Reinsdorf say that Rose is good to go? This has happened with the Bulls before and it was not the best thing for the team.
Remember some guy named Michael Jordan? He broke his foot in his second season and wanted to return when he felt he was healthy. The Bulls ownership would not let him play until they thought he was healthy. This led to a bunch of animosity between the future greatest player in basketball history and the franchise that he would make famous.
This could be nothing but it might also be something to watch out for in the future. If Rose wants to play and the Bulls will not let him, this could lead to another situation where the team’s star player is upset with his team. The Bulls have already alienated enough of their fans this offseason. Holding Rose back might just cause a full scale mutiny.
Reinsdorf might have Derrick Rose’s interests in mind but remember that Rose is an asset to help the Bulls make money. A fully healthy Rose makes the Bulls a lot of cash. If he is not ready to go, the Bulls do not make as much money. Then again, forcing Rose to wait to play could cause him to leave after his next contract. It’s a slippery slope that might end poorly.
