Amare Stoudemire has vowed to play defense this upcoming Knicks season in a revelation that will surely be forgotten by the time preseason rolls around. Stoudemire understands defense is what wins championships, it’s the key foundation to any successful team. It’s a matter of ‘preparation, practice and chemistry,’ in other words, not the Knicks.
“Defense is the key to win championships, that’s something I’m dedicated on also, to become a much, much better defensive player,” Stoudemire said. “It’s going to happen. It’s a matter of preparation and practice and getting that chemistry down on that end of the court.”
The team has made big strides in removing Dantoni from power and putting the ball back in Carmelo Anthony‘s hands, where it rightfully belongs. There are now two Smiths on the same team, so expect no less than 14 three-point shots per possession. Full throttle chucking, all systems go, baby. The only question is: will the Knicks be able to handle two DPOY contenders on the same roster? Tyson Chandler might have to scale back on the defensive end a little just to keep team morale up.
Amare has also been working out with Hakeem ‘The Dream’ Olajuwon this offseason. Perhaps we’ll be lucky enough to see a dream-esque matador-style shake next time Tony Parker drives in to the basket.
Chris Paul has already mastered the dream shake on his own, no lessons needed. Just take a look at this beautiful little dance number. He can pull that move out of his arsenal at any time. Hopefully, Stoudemire expands his game further and trains with Paul next offseason to set the bar high for the rest of the New York Knicks in terms of what it means to be a true champion.
