The Dallas Cowboys used a comical, yet effective approach in preparing to face Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick on Sunday night. Instead of backup Cowboys quarterback Jon Kitna and Stephen McGee simulating the speedy Vick in practice, Dallas receiver Dez Bryant worked as the scout team quarterback during practice on Thursday.
Bryant is left-handed like Vick and has a surprisingly good arm. He’s also much faster than Kitna or McGee, making a surprisingly effective Vick simulator. Cowboys All-Pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware thought it was comical, yet beneficial.
“He gave us a good look,” Ware said with a laugh. “He was fast. I was in front of him and I made the tackle.”
Bryant is by far the Cowboys’ most entertaining personality, so this episode comes as no surprise. It’s nice of Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to use Bryant as a way for their team to have a little fun while getting some work done.
