The Dallas Cowboys’ recent roster moves mean that receiver Dez Bryant will be the team’s primary punt returner for the remainder of the season. Bryant has returned punts at various times throughout his short NFL career, but will now have to take on the duty full time as the Cowboys released receiver Akwasi Owusu-Ansah on Tuesday in order to make room for fullback Shaun Chapas on the active roster.
In twelve games last season, Bryant returned 15 punts for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Bryant’s rookie season was cut short when he broke his ankle during a win over the Indianapolis Colts.
With fellow starting receiver Miles Austin likely back this week from a hamstring injury and Laurent Robinson playing so well, the Cowboys can afford to put Bryant’s health on the line for some dynamic special teams plays.
