1st Round: LSU DT Michael Brockers - No. 14 Overall

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

The Cowboys have discussed the possibility of moving star nose tackle Jay Ratliff to defensive end. At 6’4” and 287 lbs., Ratliff is the perfect size to play defensive end in the Cowboys’ complex 3-4 scheme. If such a move was made, Dallas would need a suitable replacement for Ratliff at nose tackle. When the Cowboys are on the clock at No. 14 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, LSU’s Michael Brockers is the perfect choice to make this move a reality.

Brockers is 6’6” and 306 lbs. so he has the size to take over for Ratliff on the interior. The redshirt sophomore standout recorded two sacks, four quarterback pressures, one interception, one forced fumble and a blocked kick during the 2011 college football season. He finished third among Tigers defenders with 10 tackles for loss during their SEC Championship run.

A Houston, Texas native, Brockers is very athletic and quick for his size, running a 4.86 in the 40-yard dash. He’s not a perfect player; Brockers is a little raw, but his talent and athleticism make him impossible to pass up for a team like the Cowboys.

  1. NuclearPalsy says:

No way Harrison Smith drops to the 4th round. I’d be shocked if Gilmore is there in the 2nd. It would be a nice draft for the Cowboys but no way these guys drop. And I think we draft more pass rushers than cornerbacks.

  2. Tower says:

Brockers would not be a NT in a 3-4.. he would be a 5-technique DE.

NT should be shorter and weigh over 330lbs… That is one of Ratliff’s problems, he is too tall and long and cannot get proper leverage. He is a finesse guy that has to use speed to shoot the gap and get into the backfield.

We don’t need a taller version of Jay Ratliff in the middle.. we need a player closer to Josh brent, 6’2″ 330lb.
