As the Dallas Cowboys get ready for the team’s third preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, there are several Cowboys gearing up for their last chance to make the team. Yes, the Cowboys still have one more exhibition after the Rams game, but the week after the third preseason game is when the first round of roster cuts are made. That means these 20 players need to play their hearts out on Saturday night against the Rams:
Raymond Radway, WR – The up-and-coming rookie this time last year, Radway is now being overshadowed by Andre Holmes and Cole Beasley, who are sure to make the team. Sentence: Practice Squad
Dwayne Harris, WR – Same song, second verse. Harris shows potential, but he disappears at times and Lord knows the Cowboys don’t need another receiver like that. Sentence: Cut
Matt Johnson, S – He won’t start, but he should back up Barry Church at strong safety. Sentence: Safe
Stephen McGee, QB – In his fourth season as the third-string passer, McGee has yet to improve one iota. Status: Cut
Rudy Carpenter, QB – He hasn’t done anything to deserve a roster spot and the Cowboys would rather have an extra spot for a receiver or offensive lineman. Status: Practice Squad
Danny Coale, WR – This is how the cookie crumbles. If he hadn’t been hurt, he likely would have made the team. Sentence: Cut
Orie Lemon, ILB – Strong, consistent preseason equals roster spot. Sentence: Safe
Mana Silva, S – He hasn’t outplayed Johnson, on whom the Cowboys used a draft pick. Sentence: Cut
Derrick Dockery, OG – Veteran presence and solid work as a fill-in during the 2011 season earn Dockery a spot on the roster again. Sentence: Safe
Ronald Leary, OG – He’s had a good preseason, but not a great one and Dockery has more experience. Sentence: Cut
Kevin Kowalski, C – A rising star hindered by injuries and time on the PUP list. Should be the starting center by midseason. Sentence: Safe
Tim Benford, WR – The Cowboys are only going to keep five receivers and six at the absolute most. Benford is No. 8 on the list. Sentence: Cut
Andrew Szczerba, TE – He’s played great this preseason, but the Cowboys aren’t going to keep four tight ends on the roster. Sentence: Cut
Pat McQuistan, OT – He’s back and he’ll be the backup left tackle behind Tyron Smith. Sentence: Safe
Robert Calloway, DE – Dallas needs a ton of help on the defensive line, but Calloway can’t provide it. Sentence: Cut
Ben Bass, DE – Ditto for Bass. Sentence: Cut
Adrian Hamilton, OLB – The Cowboys are probably going to keep five outside linebackers and Hamilton is No. 6 in the pecking order. He might get lucky… Sentence: Practice Squad
Jamize Olawale, RB – He’s listed as a fullback, but plays like a running back. Still, Dallas won’t keep more than three on the roster. Sentence: Practice squad
Clifton Geathers, DE – Nobody in Dallas has anything bad to say about Geathers at this point. Sentence: Safe
Shaun Chapas, FB – A subpar training camp led to a horrendous preseason thus far and the Cowboys only keep one fullback on the roster and that’s Lawrence Vickers. Sentence: Cut
Of course, all of these players’ status could change after the Rams game, but it’s unlikely. Players like Beasley and Holmes made their mark early and have already pretty much sealed their deals with the team. It will take some serious uprooting to change that, but hey, anything is possible.

I disagree with leary… he was givin guaranteed money coming in… hes jeryys “PET CAT”…. he was a projected 3rd rounder if not for the degeneretive knee condition…. i think they keep him and look for the payoff to come later in the season when injurys occur….
