The Dallas Cowboys had a 53-man roster by Friday’s deadline, but then cut third-string quarterback Stephen McGee on Saturday to make room for a waiver pickup from the Cincinnati Bengals – a fourth-string tight end.

It’s very interesting that the Cowboys decided to go with only three inside linebackers on the active roster, especially after strong preseasons by Orie Lemon and Adrian Hamilton, who were both let go in the final round of cuts. Dallas also let two promising young running backs walk in Lance Dunbar and Jamize Olawale, and elected to go with last year’s three active backs: Murray, Jones and Tanner.
Dallas also only kept two quarterbacks, but kept a slew of defensive backs, which is definitely reassuring to Cowboys fans after the past two horrendous seasons in the secondary.
The roster and depth chart are there, but that’s the case for all the other 31 NFL teams, too. Now it’s time to see what this group can do in action.
