Peyton Manning, Eric Decker Perfecting Their Passing Connection
The Denver Broncos‘ new franchise quarterback is quick to work. Broncos QB Peyton Manning and WR Eric Decker have been working together in recent weeks to perfect their pass connection and to insure there are no doubts that Manning is showing no signs of breaking down after several neck surgeries.
In a video posted on the team website Wednesday, Manning said his work with Decker is not only helping the new teammates establish a connection but will mean wins when the season starts.
He goes on to explain how these workouts will really help in critical situations and how rewarding these work outs will feel later during the season when you look back and remember that you worked on that over and over during the offseason and now it showed up on a big-time play in a big-time game.
These workouts are nothing new to Manning since he has held these workouts every April for his entire career and it seems to pay off for him every season. If you have ever watched Manning you can tell that he and his receivers are usually always on the same page and when they are not he’s pretty upset about it. As a quarterback you deserve to be upset when a receiver messes up, but only when you have put in the time and the effort than Manning does. You can’t just show up in September and then be upset at the receivers for not doing everything perfect. Manning demands that his receivers and himself be prepared and on the same page at all times. This is the main reason that the Broncos will improve in their first year with Manning.
Manning has been recovering from a neck injury that caused him to miss the entire 2011 season and because of the injury the Indianapolis Colts released the 14 year veteran. The Broncos jumped on the opportunity to sign Manning.
Decker has been the closet workout partner with Manning so far and he feels confident that Manning has what it takes to still be a great NFL quarterback. I do not know if WR Demaryius Thomas is involved in these workouts, but if he’s not I would hurry and join if I were him. Manning is a perfectionist and if he’s perfecting everything with Decker he will feel more confident throwing his way when game time rolls around.
Decker said on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on ESPN Radio on Tuesday that he hasn’t seen anything in the workouts that would lead him to believe Manning’s arm strength has decreased due to four procedures on his neck.
I am excited to see if the Broncos can improve on their 8-8 season even though their schedule is supposed to be the second-toughest in the league. I can promise you this: they have the signal-caller to improve and he’s going to demand perfection and if he gets most to jump on board the Broncos will be tough to beat.
