Denver Broncos Reportedly Sign WR Brandon Stokley
The Denver Broncos have reportedly signed WR Brandon Stokley to a one year deal according to a tweet by Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network..
This will reunite Stokley with the Broncos and a quarterback that he had the most success with in new Broncos QB Peyton Manning.
Stokley is a 13 year veteran that is 35 years old, but has always been known for his route running, smarts, and amazing hands. These abilities seem to not diminish as quickly as physical attributes. Stokley enjoyed his best season as a pro back in 2004 when he received 68 passes, for 1,077 yards, and 10 touch downs while helping Manning and the Indianapolis Colts put up record numbers that year. Stokley was a part in history on December 26, 2004 when Manning connected with him on a 21 yard pass that broke Dan Marino’s 48 touchdown passes in a single season and Manning became the 1st QB to throw for a 1,000 yards to 3 different receivers on that play. The other two receivers being Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.
He also averaged around 40 receptions and 4-5 touchdowns a year between 2007 and 2009 when he was with the Broncos.
Stokley seams to be a good fit to the receiving corps that the Broncos have already. The Broncos have great size and play making ability already and Stokley seems to be what they are missing, a slot guy who is not scared to stick his nose in there and get the short yardage needed to make a team be successful.
Let’s hope that Manning and Stokley can regain their magic working together again and maybe there will be more Super Bowls to add to the one that Manning and Stokley shared together in Indianapolis in 2006 and Stokley also got him one as a Baltimore Raven in Super Bowl XXXV.
