Peyton Manning to Play Entire First Half Versus Seattle
Denver Broncos’ fans are going to get their longest look to date at Peyton Manning on Saturday night versus the Seattle Seahawks, John Fox announced on Thursday that Manning will play most of if not the entire first half in the second preseason game. Manning and the offense will have more of a chance to get into a rhythm and start to establish their identity for the regular season. Because Manning is set to play the first half, fans can expect to see the rest of the starters for that long as well.
Starters do not usually play that long in the second game of the preseason but these are unique circumstances. Because Manning missed the entire 2011 season and is now playing for a new team, playing a little more in the preseason is necessary. Manning needs to develop timing with his receivers, work behind a new offensive line and just get a feel for the game again. It goes against what most NFL coaches believe but it is a good move by Fox. The Broncos face a tough schedule and do not have the luxury of easing into the season, they have to hit the ground running and playing more now is a way to get that done.
In other Manning news on Thursday, John Elway said that Manning is throwing the ball as well as ever and thinks his release is even quicker, as reported by Jim Corbett of the USA Today. Elway said:
He throws the post route and everything well. I went back and looked at film from 2010 and 2009 to get a comparison of Peyton, and he looks to me to be the same guy throwing now that was throwing then.”
Elway went on to say:
The ball is coming out quicker all the time the more and more time he gets with the offense and getting to know his receivers and tight ends. That’s always been his style, he’s always thrown the ball with great anticipation and touch.
Fans have to be encouraged by what Elway said today in the USA Today and have to be looking forward to watching Manning play the entire first half on Saturday night. It’s starting to get very real for the Denver Broncos, Peyton Manning and the fans.
