Byron Hetzler-US PRESSWIRE

The Denver Broncos lost their second preseason game to the Seattle Seahawks at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Saturday night in a game that looked like the second preseason game. The final score was, 30-10.  There was some good and some bad, but that’s what these games are for. Let’s take a look.

What I liked:

Peyton Manning- Yes he had a couple of interceptions, one tipped, but looked comfortable in the pocket and finished 16 for 23 for 177 yards. A couple of those incompletions were drops, including what would have been a touchdown pass. As Manning has said, this is a process and tonight was another step. He also got hit, and lived!

First team offensive line- For the second straight week, Manning had plenty of time to throw and Willis McGahee had some nice runs.

Pass rush- The Broncos first team defensive line was in the Seattle backfield early and often.

David Bruton- Bruton had two blocked punts and if the backup safety is going to make this team, it has to be on special teams.

Joe Mays- Mays continued his strong camp, he was very active and in on a number of plays.

Champ Bailey- It goes without saying but we take him for granted, he was in mid-season form on Saturday night.

Chris Harris- The second year cornerback had two pass breakups and if he’s your fourth corner, then the Broncos are in good shape at that spot.

Nate Irving- Irving had another solid outing and just looks like he’s playing the game instead of thinking so much. He could be a very big part of the defense this season.

No injuries of note- There were only a couple of guys, Andre Caldwell and Irving, who came off of the field with injuries but both looked fairly minor. The number one goal of any preseason game is to come out healthy and the Broncos did that.

What I didn’t like:

The run defense- Marshawn Lynch of the Seahawks was able to get up the middle for some big gains, as were some of the other running backs.

The turnovers- It’s never a good idea to turn the ball over three times in the first-half but the positive was they found a way to be in front at the half, even with the turnovers.

The drops- Manning’s stats could have been even better had it not been for three drops. One of those drops was, Jacob Tamme on what would have been a touchdown at the end of the first half.

Knowshon Moreno- He continues to run tentative and just looks lost on the field. Granted there weren’t many holes but he’s looks scared to take it up in there.

The second team defense- Seattle was able to move the ball fairly easily in the second half, some of those players are going to be asked to contribute during the regular season and must be better.

Brock Osweiler- The young quarterback is going to be fine, but he had a rough night on Saturday. He held onto the ball too long at times and looked shaky in the pocket.

The second team offense- They got nothing going in the second half and like those on the second team defense, some of those guys will be counted on during the season.

With the loss, the Denver Broncos fall to 1-1 on the preseason but that’s not important. They did some things well and other things not so well, that’s why they have preseason. There are still three weeks before they count, time to go back to work.

2 Rants to “The Denver Broncos Lose to the Seattle Seahawks”

  1. Hawk_Eye says:

Peyton Manning looked old and slow out there. Look at Russell Wilsons stats!

  2. Steve says:

I was excited to see Manning come back out to finish the second quarter. The starters had played well but the 3 turnovers left me feeling like Manning had not shown what he was all about. I was watching the Broncos two-minute offense with a coworker at Dish during our break. I had the game pulled up on my Dish Remote Access App on my tablet. The app allows me to watch the game live by connecting my tablet and home TV though the sling adapter. I have to admit it did make me nervous when I saw Manning take his first hit since the surgery, but he got right back up! If he plays this well going into the regular season I think the Broncos are in good shape.
