Going into Monday night’s game the Detroit Lions are riding an NFL high eight game winning streak. The streak ironically started the week after losing a fourth quarter lead to this week’s opponent the Chicago Bears.
The Lions played the Bears down to the wire in both games last season and if you think about it Detroit could have been 8-8 last season if they won those games. The first game will be held in infamy with Detroit fans as the bogus call from ref where “Calvin Johnson made the winning touchdown catch, but was ruled to have not made the catch” game.
The play was reviewed over and over and received national attention. Most people would say it was a catch by looking at it, but apparently the interpretation of the rule says it was not.
Sounds like to me as though a rule interpretation needed to be reinterpreted. Anyways, the Lions may not have been this much of a surprise this season had the Lions not blown the games to Chicago.
Detroit also blew a game against the Jets. Never mind the fact that Matthew Stafford missed the bulk of the season with a shoulder injury as well.
The Lions very well could have been a playoff contender last year if things went their way. Detroit fans reading that line would as of last year say that “Nothing ever goes our way”.
That of course was until this year. The Lions have captured the interest of the NFL fan base and are being portrayed as the team that came out of nowhere or as the franchise that’s finally sick of getting stepped on.
Truth be told the Detroit Lions season is a surprise to all football fans. It just may not be as much of a surprise to a blue-collar city like Detroit that has stood with its Lions through thick and thin.
