After reaching the post season for the first time since the 1999 season, the Detroit Lions have a lot to be happy about going into the 2012 season. The Lions also have some real tough choices to make with their roster and with the upcoming 2012 draft.
In the event the Detroit Lions are not able to resign their free agent linebacker Stephen Tullock. Who had a great 2011 season in which he had 111 tackles, with two interceptions. Because of the tight salary cap restraints and player salaries the Lions are facing. They made be better suited to draft a linebacker in the 2012 draft to replace Stephen Tulloch.
If the Lions go the route of using their 23rd overall pick to draft a linebacker they should consider drafting Luke Kuechly out of Boston College. He is the type of linebacker who has the right attitude and mold to become to one of the best linebackers in the future at the position in the NFL.
Kuechly was named the ACC linebacker of the week three times in 2011. He also had a streak of double digit tackle games that lasted 33 games between 2009 through 2011. The Detroit Lions have to love the intensity Luke Kuechly brings on to the football field.
His instincts and intelligence Kuechly uses on the field to disrupt the opponents passing game or to help stuff their running game makes him very strong first round candidate that can become an All-Pro player in the NFL in the not too distant future.
The Detroit Lions could not stop the Saints rushing or passing game when they to had in their wild playoff matchup. In which they were blown out. Drafting a linebacker with great tackling ability and knowing where to be to help give his team an edge is what the Detroit Lions line backing group needs to have to improve their defense as whole
The bottom line is if Luke Kuechly falls to the 23rd pick the Detroit Lions should snatch him before another team can. He has the ability to change a game in a moment. He is a very strong tackler that the Detroit Lions very much need, and at the same can keep up with receivers making it very hard for opposing teams to get those first downs. That the Detroit Lions always seem to give up in key situations last season in games they lost.
The Detroit Lions have many issues tough decisions with free agents and their upcoming draft. If they are able to draft Luke Kuechly with the 23rd pick that would be a great start for the Detroit Lions going into the 2012 season.
