Detroit Lions S Louis Delmas Still Not Practicing
The Detroit Lions have had a multitude of problems during the offseason and now the team seems to have been bitten by the injury bug in training camp. The start of the 2012 NFL season is just around a month away, but the Lions have some things to sort between now and then.
The preseason seems like it just started, but the Detroit Lions have added injury issues to go along with the already widely reported off the field problems.
Team safety Louis Delmas has not been able to practice for the past week or so with a left knee injury. Just add Delmas to the list of injured Lions along with WR Ryan Broyles, S Don Carey, RB Mikel Leshoure, RB Stephfon Green and DE Kyle Vanden Bosch all have been banged up as of late with some injuries being more serious than others. Vanden Bosch’s injury does not appear to be serious.
The team is really hoping that Delmas can play a full season at the safety position after missing five games in 2011 after having sugary for a right knee injury. The knee injury from last season is more than likely a huge deciding factor in why the team is being so cautious with Delmas in training camp.
The Lions play their first preseason game this Friday against the Cleveland Browns with the Baltimore Ravens following next week. The key thing for Detroit is that Delmas is ready for week one of the regular season against the St. Louis Rams.
Detroit cannot afford to have any significant injuries on a defense that has a great deal to prove in 2012. This is a much maligned unit that no doubt wants to prove neysayers wrong, but if they are going to do so Delmas needs to perform well at the safety position.
