Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Jose Valverde; the Detroit Tigers nowadays boast a roster with so many big-name athletes that Brian Cashman is starting to sweat. The 2012 season is as highly anticipated as any other in recent memory for Detroit, boasting a fearsome lineup and arguably the best pitcher in the baseball today.

The baseball world is falling in love with the deadly combination of superstar sluggers Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder. Very rarely do you find undoubtedly two of the best hitters  in baseball in the same line-up.

But the Tigers’ aren’t new to having a powerful offense, having one of the AL’s better squads for the past few years. In 2011, the Tigers had eight players hit .270 or better. Alex Avila, Delmon Young, Jhonny Peralta, Victor Martinez and Wilson Betemit all had a solid year.

But one of the brightest spots on the team was right-fielder Brennan Boesch. His rookie year in 2010 began in hot fashion, hitting .342 with 12 home-runs and 49 runs batted-in, winning Rookie of the Month honors for May and June (his first two months in the majors). Though he ended 2010 in a slump, he showed in 2011 he was capable of being alongside Cabrera towards the top of the line-up, batting .283 with 16 HR and 54 RBI in 115 games before needing surgery to repair a thumb injury, ending his season.

Losing Boesch was a huge blow, as Detroit was starting to run away with the AL Central crown and were eyeing to  make a deep run in the playoffs. It was then fans and national pundits alike began to realize Boesch’s value to the team.

“Like I’ve been saying for two years, he’s got a real high ceiling in my opinion, a real high ceiling”, Tigers manager Jim Leyland told reporters during spring-training.

Now, with the signing of Silver Slugger Award winner Prince Fielder, a Miguel Cabrera in his prime,  a young and healthy Brennan Boesch, and returning a majority of last years 97-win squad, the sky is the limit for the Detroit Tigers in 2012.

Detroit opens their season April 5th against the Boston Red Sox, and as excitment grows in anticipation of the debut of the dynamic duo of Cabrera and Fielder, it won’t be long before Boesch gets his credit and the one-two punch becomes the fearsome trio.
