Why Prince Fielder is the Difference Maker in Detroit
Every team has one.
That difference maker. That “it” factor that can put the franchise over the top by not only making them a contender, but a championship ball club.
Prince Fielder is all of the above for the Detroit Tigers.
This past offseason, Prince Fielder signed a nine-year, 214 million dollar deal with the ball club. He brings another solid bat to a lineup that already consists of Miguel Cabrera, Alex Avila, Jhonny Peralta, and Austin Jackson. In my opinion, Prince and Cabrera are the best 3,4 hitters in all of baseball.
A year ago, Miguel Cabrera batted .344 with 30 homeruns and 105 RBIs for the Detroit Tigers. Fielder hit .299 with 38 homeruns and 120 RBIs for the Milwaukee Brewers. Now, together on the same team? They will do big time damage in the American League this year, and that is why I believe they will make it to the World Series. I see it as: Detroit Tigers vs Philadelphia Phillies. Remember that ladies and gentlemen.
The reason why Fielder makes the Tigers’ lineup that much better is simple.
Put yourself in the opponents’ pitchers’ shoes. How do you prepare for a lineup that features two guys in their prime, batting back to back in a lineup? Their batting average is .300 and they get approximately 30 homeruns and 100 RBIs every single season. They are identical, except one bats righty and the other lefty (Cabrera, Fielder respectively). Every team basically has a star or stars (in this case), but two players can’t win them a championship. The other players I named contributes in their own way, and they don’t need the spotlight like Fielder and Cabrera. Oh yeah, and you can’t forget the MVP/CY Young Award Winner, Justin Verlander who is the anchor for the starting pitching staff. Assuming these great assets to this team stays healthy, the Detroit Tigers will be playing late in October. Mark my words.

“Remember that ladies and gentlemen..” “Mark my words..” You’re writing like you’re the only one or the first one to realize that the current Tiger team has a great shot at the World Series. They came so very close last year and then add a superstar in the 4 spot. They will have the benefit of full seasons from Fister and Young. As good as Victor Martinez was last year and it was a career year basically because he hit behind Cabrera (who was a legit MVP candidate), Fielder is actually a huge upgrade at the cleanup spot. As evidenced yesterday with his pair of dingers. Many of us will be surprised if they do not make it to the World Series. They have a legit chance to win 100 games since their in the weak AL Central Division. They have an outside chance of scoring 1000 runs and hitting 200+ HR’s as a team.
