Monmouth University Women’s Soccer Receives Five Major Awards from the CAA

Hawks Had Seven Players Receive All-CAA Accolades

After finishing the regular season as the number one seed, the Monmouth University Women’s Soccer team earned five major awards as the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) announced its end of the year awards.

Junior Summer Reimet was named the CAA Attacking Player of the Year while sophomore Liza Suydam was selected as the CAA Co-Midfielder of the Year. For the second straight season, graduate student Lauren Bruno was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year while freshman Ashley Lavrich took home CAA Rookie of the Year accolades. Head Coach Kylee Flynn was selected as the CAA Coach of the Year.

It’s the first time in program history that the Hawks have had five major award winners in the same season.

In addition, Reimet, Suydam and Bruno all took home First Team All-CAA accolades. Lavrich along with graduate student Chloe Ferreira and senior Cassie Coster earned Second Team All-CAA honors. Lavrich was joined on the CAA All-Rookie Team by Grace Notarfrancesco.

Reimet becomes Monmouth’s 11th Offensive Player of the Year in program history and first since Lauren Karabin in 2020-21. Reimet was honored by the conference office for the second time in her career after earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team in 2022. She started all 18 games with a career-high 27 points on 11 goals with five assists. Reimet leads the CAA in goals (11) and game-winning goals (5) and is tied for the CAA lead in points (27). She has a season-high two goals in a game twice.

Suydam becomes the first midfielder of the year in program history. She was honored for the second straight season after being the rookie of the year last season. Suydam has started all 18 matches and ranks second on the team with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. She has two game-winning goals and has twice been named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week. She is tied for fourth in the CAA in goals per game and seventh in points per game.

Bruno was honored for the second straight season as the CAA Defensive Player of the Year. It is the 11th time in program history that Monmouth has had a Defensive Player of the Year. She has started all 18 matches this fall. Bruno has captained a Monmouth backline that has posted a CAA-best nine shutouts and held 14 of 18 opponents to one goal or less. Bruno pushes up into the midfield and takes most of the free kicks for the Hawks. She has a career-high four assists this season.

Lavrich is Monmouth’s second straight Rookie of the Year and seventh in program history. She was the only freshman to be named to any of the all-conference teams. Lavrich started all 18 games during her rookie campaign. She is currently third on the team with 17 points on five goals and seven assists. Lavrich leads the Hawks and is tied for second in the CAA in assists per game. She is eighth in the CAA in points per game (.94). Lavrich was a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week and was ranked 25th in the TopDrawer Soccer Top Freshman to Watch.

Flynn earned Coach of the Year accolades for the second time in three years in the CAA. She has led the Hawks to at least a share of the CAA Regular Season Title twice. The Hawks have won at least 11 games in each of Flynn’s three seasons as the head coach. She has coached seven CAA major award winners.

Coster earned Second Team accolades for the third straight season. She logged every minute in goal for the Hawks and recorded a 0.72 goals against average and an .838 save percentage. Coster made a season-high nine saves at Northeastern and has made five saves in seven or more contests. She leads the CAA in goals against average and shutouts.

Ferreira was honored for the second straight season as she moved up from the Third Team to Second Team this season. She started all 18 matches on defense for the Hawks. She helped the Hawks lead the CAA in shutouts and hold 14 opponents to one goal or less. Ferreira scored a goal in the 2-2 tie at Stony Brook.

Notarfrancesco gave Monmouth two players on the All-Rookie team for the second straight season. She started all 18 matches during her rookie campaign and was a played a key role in a Monmouth backline that posted nine shutouts and held 14 of 18 opponents to one goal or less.

The Hawks are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 3 in the CAA Semifinals.
