Tony’s Prelude to his list:

As you can tell, the front of the list is very RB heavy, as it should be. With rushing and receiving stats readily available, it makes the most sense as in every league format, RBs likely garner the most points.

QBs were pretty simple to rate, as the top 20 or so is worth drafting, but there is a pretty big dropoff between Jason Campbell and David Garrard. Wide Receivers, on the other hand, are tough to determine what you will get from them from year to year. It’s like predicting Wins or RBIs in baseball because their stats are so contingent on how many targets they get overall, how many targets they get in the redzone, how many drops they end up with, if they’re double covered or if defenses are keying on them, if their quarterback gets hurt, how many yards they get after the catch. Basically, only the top tier is predictable. You know Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Reggie Wayne and Roddy White are going to get catches, yards and scores. But Calvin Johnson (who is fifth on this list)? Well, he could end up as the top receiver or as the 50th best receiver. You just never know, which is why most of them are further down on this list.

As for kickers, it’s pretty obvious how I feel about them—they don’t matter in the draft. If they do well, you get lucky. There are no sure-things anymore. Some guys will hit five 50-yarders in a season (if your league gets more points for those) while others will go three years without one. Kickers’ points are so based on opportunities, so use your last pick on one and just grab a kicker whom you know is proven and is on a good offense, so he will likely to have several extra-point and field goal opportunities throughout the course of the game.

Scott’s Prelude:

With my rankings, I wanted to establish the value of skill position players. For the most part, quarterbacks are picked sporadically, and the only reason I had any in the top 30 is because there will always be that one person who reaches on one.

The simple fact is that you can draft a QB who will pass for 4,000 yards and 20 plus TDs as last as the sixth to seventh rounds. So why reach? There are, of course, exceptional talents. Aaron Rodgers, the only QB I have in the first round, comes to mind. But he adds running yards/TDs along with his formidable passing skills. You might note that I have Drew Brees listed further down than most others, and there’s a simple explanation for this: he’s on the cover of Madden, and I don’t want to have to worry about when that impending injury will strike.

Besides QBs, I wanted to place TEs further in the back of the draft, mainly due to the fact that there are so many prolific TEs that you can afford to pass on one and grab a young RB or WR with talent who just hasn’t broken out yet.

With that all in mind, enjoy my rankings of the Top 200 fantasy football players for the 2010 season, and remember, never draft a kicker anywhere besides your final pick!

Kevin’s Prelude:

Times in fantasy football are changing a bit. Top 200 lists are offering new looks this year around websites and blogs, and mine offers a few new looks of its own. Certain things struck me as odd this year, such as Peyton Manning being the third best quarterback in the league and LT dropping down closer to 100 than 1. Also, a wide receiver cracked the top five and…well, you can check out the rest.

Alex’s Prelude:

I struggled a lot with where to put Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. These two guys are clearly amazing athletes, but I don’t know who would out perform them.  Running backs like Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson are true every down backs that should be at the top of everyone’s draft boards. Ray Rice does miss some goal line carries and can’t be at No. 1 or 2 until McGahee is gone. Moving down the list, at 14, Beanie Wells is going to explode this season. With Leinart taking snaps, he will get a lot of carries. Ryan Matthews is another back that could be in for a huge first year. I think the Ravens will be able to put up huge numbers on offense this year. I am expecting Anquan Boldin to raise the stock of the already talented cast around him. Flacco, Mason and Boldin will all be much better fantasy options this year.

Further down the list, Terrell Owens has a very good chance to be a fantasy stud this year. Carson Palmer is healthy and has the best receiving corps he’s ever had. The Bengals will be a productive offense this year. There are two running backs at 74 and 75 that I really like. Felix Jones at 74 and Jerome Harrison at 75–both have tremendous play making ability.

Further than that it is tough to tell, but the best guide to drafting is to draft on ability and experience, you want the playmakers. This list is nothing but playmakers, so keep it close on draft day.
