Fantasy Football Saturday Update (Week 15)
Mark Ingram has been officially ruled out, leaving Chris Ivory to carry the load for the Saints. Ivory had a team high 13 carries last week but it will most likely be Darren Sproles who has the most effective day catching passes out of the backfield. Drew Brees, Marques Colston, and Jimmy Graham all rank among the best starts in fantasy this week against the Vikings 26th ranked secondary.
It looks like Kellen Clemens will start at quarterback for the Rams with AJ Feeley ruled out and Sam Bradford doubtful this week. With the Rams hosting the Bengals 11th ranked pass defense, you can bump down the value of Brandon Lloyd. Steven Jackson will be the only decent play here given his likely work load but even then he will be facing a very tough run defense as well. Look for other options if available.
Adrian Peterson looks like a start on Sunday, finally returning to action after a several week layoff. The Saints have been decent against the run (15th) but have struggled on the road this season. Hopefully his value as a pass catcher will score you some points since the run game is likely to be abandoned early on if the Saints score at will as expected. The Vikings are also expected to keep an eye on his work load so don’t expect more than a 10-13 point day for Peterson.
Ben Roethlisberger practiced in a limited capacity again Saturday so he will most likely be a go against the 49ers. The best way to beat the Niners is with the pass so Ben carries high value and is a top 5 start this week. Look for Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace to have very productive days and a high volume of targets.
Kevin Kolb has been ruled out yet again this week and John Skelton is in line to get the start. Unfortunately for Skelton, he faces the top rated secondary of Cleveland, which also lowers the value of Larry Fitzgerald considerably. Beanie Wells on the other hand is a top 5 start against the miserable Browns defensive front.
Kyle Orton has been given the green light as the starter by new head coach Romeo Crennel. The Packers are actually quite horrific against the pass (31st) so this makes for an interesting match up. Dwayne Bowe will no doubt be highly relied upon so he is the best start on this team Sunday. The question is how will Orton perform after 8 weeks of non-game action?
With Greg Jennings out several weeks, Jordy Nelson becomes the go to guy against the Chiefs 10th rated secondary. The Chiefs have played every bit as well as their ranking out wide so expect Jermichael Finley to be very involved this week as Nelson grabs most of the attention. Where the Chiefs are weakest is against the run, where they allow 132 rushing yards per game and have allowed 5 scores in their last 5 games. James Starks is questionable this week which leaves Ryan Grant as the one most likely to rack up a healthy amount of yardage. Grant had his most productive day this year last week, totaling 85 yards with 2 scores.
While it is hard to go against him, Tim Tebow looks to have a great match up against the Patriots league worst secondary. Though that may be the case, Belichick is great at disguising coverages and confusing young quarterbacks like Tebow. Though all the numbers and historical match ups point in Tebow’s favor, this is actually one of the few games where I believe his efforts will be negated. The only two times this season the Broncos have been blasted out of the water were against Detroit and Green Bay. What did they have in common? Two pass happy offenses with gun slinging quarterbacks. Tom Brady, Wes Welker, and Gronkowski should all wind up as top 5 fantasy performers at their respected positions this week.
