Week 16 Fantasy Football Players to Start and Sit
By Adam McGill
Guys to Start:
QB Cam Newton, CAR (vs. TB) – The rookie has played like a veteran all season long and has looked very similar to four-time Pro Bowler Randall Cunningham. Look for Newton to shred a Bucs’ run-defense that has allowed 20 rushing touchdowns.
QB Andy Dalton, CIN (vs. ARI) – Dalton had a miserable game last weekend, but expect much better numbers as Cincy travels to the desert for a shootout of unheralded superstars.
RB Marshawn Lynch, SEA (vs. SF) – Lynch may face a 49ers’ defense that has not allowed a rushing touchdown all year long, but expect him to get at least one handful of Skittles this weekend.
RB Rashard Mendenhall, PIT (vs. STL) – Mendenhall had a very tough matchup last weekend against a flawless 49ers’ defense, but expect the former Illinois star to destroy a lackluster Rams’ defense.
WR Julio Jones, ATL (@ NO) – “Double J” has been exactly what the Falcons’ expected when they traded half of next year’s draft for him. He has great hands, is a perfect size, and can outrun every defensive back in the league.
WR Demaryius Thomas, DEN (@ BUF) – Thomas has been unstoppable since quarterback Tim Tebow took over and the receiver has amassed 388 yards and 3 scores in the last three weeks.
TE Jason Witten, DAL (vs. PHI) – Witten always tears apart the aging Eagles’ linebackers, so expect another huge performance from the seasoned pro.
IDP: Champ Bailey, DEN (@ BUF) – Bills’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been very erratic lately by throwing 5 interceptions in his last two games, which will give Bailey a chance to be aggressive by trying to jump a couple routes. .
Guys to Sit:
QB Aaron Rodgers, GB (vs. CHI) – After the Packers’ locked up home field advantage, I recommended that all Rodgers’ owners grab backup Matt Flynn to be careful. Rodgers will likely only play half of this next game and sit in week 17, so owners should be advised that he has lttle to no value moving forward.
QB Eli Manning, NYG (@ NYJ) – The “Battle of the Big Apple” will end up being a home game for both teams, but the Jets’ have a much tougher secondary pick apart.
RB Toby Gerhart, MIN (@ WSH) – Gerhart snaked 2 touchdowns from hopeful Adrian Peterson fans last weekend, but do not expect that to become a regular occurrence.
WR Lance Moore, NO (vs. ATL) – Moore had a huge game last weekend with 2 touchdowns, but he will be the odd man out in Sean Payton’s offense for week 16.
WR Santana Moss, WSH (vs. MIN) – Moss had a big game last week with a 20-yard touchdown grab, but quarterback Rex Grossman will have a much tougher time finding receivers against the Vikings.
TE Kellen Winslow, TB (@ CAR) – Winslow has lost fantasy value with each passing week and has become a fantasy afterthought at this point.
IDP: John Abraham, ATL (@ NO) – Abraham will have a tough game as the Saints’ are playing perfect heading into the playoffs.
