Fantasy Golf Report for British Open
The British Open is the biggest United Kingdom tournament of the year and always features the best golfers in the world. Below is my full fantasy golf report for the British Open:
Top-Ten Fantasy Rankings:
1. Tiger Woods – Woods have won the British open three times over his illustrious career and will be the heavy favorite this weekend.
2. Padraig Harrington – The two-time British Open champ is atop everyone’s draft board.
3. Luke Donald – Donald has never won a major in his career and will be extra hungry this time around.
4. Bubba Watson – Watson may still be dreaming following his huge victory at the Masters, as he has missed the cut in two of his last four tournaments. However, he seems very calm lately, so his confidence may come in handy this weekend.
5. Rory McIlroy – McIlroy will not have the pressure that he had on him last year, so except the old Rory to make an appearance this weekend.
6. Lee Westwood – Westwood is looking to rebound following his troublesome round at Olympic in which he hit a tree in the final round, pretty much costing a shot at his first major victory. Westwood likes how open the Royal Lytham and St. Annes course are, so expect him to have another strong showing.
7. Louis Oosthuizen – The “Ozzie” won the Open in 2010 at St. Andrews and has shown up at every tournament this year.
8. Jason Dufner – Dufner won the Zurich Classic, finished sixty-eighth at the Players Championship, won the HP Byron Nelson Championship, finished second at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, and finished fourth at the U. S. Open. Dufner will be a great sleeper this weekend after all the big names come off the board.
9. Zach Johnson – Johnson won the John Deere Classic last weekend, following his phenomenal 193-yard bunker shot that landed less then a foot from the hole and set up his birdie on the second hole of the playoff round.
10. Phil Mickelson – Mickelson has only finished in the top-ten twice at the British Open, so his fantasy stock slips a bit this weekend.
Long Shots:
Justin Rose – Rose has had a superb season in 2012 and seems to be one great round away from winning a major.
Matt Kuchar – Kuchar is having an amazing year. He finished third at the Masters, won the Player Championship, and finished 11 under at the Travelers Championship.
Jim Furyk – “Furious Furyk” is one of the most accurate golfers out of the tee box, as he is ranked sixth in driving accuracy at 69.9%. Furyk will love the open course this week across the pond.
Dustin Johnson – “DJ” won the FedEx St. Jude Classic last month, but has struggled since then, as he has failed to crack the top-30 in three consecutive tournaments.
Martin Laird – The Scotsman has seven top-25 finishes this year and will have a strong showing on one of his home courses.
Steve Stricker – Stricker has cooled down since a hot start to the 2012 season, but his 16 under last weekend at the John Deere Classic could be the start to his rebound.
Rickie Fowler – Fowler grabbed his first PGA victory by winning the Wells Fargo Championship earlier in the year, so many people will be watching the flashy star this weekend. However, it may because of the new Puma golf line that he will be unveiling.
Par Fives
Ernie Els – The “Elk” always plays well at majors and will be one veteran to keep an eye on as he won the major in 2002.
Bills Haas – Haas has missed the cut four times since winning the Northern Trust Open in February.
Ryo Ishikawa – The kid is learning with every tournament.
Fredrik Jacobson – The Sweed has been getting better with each stateside tournament.
