The fantasy baseball season is getting closer and closer to the playoffs, making each free agent period more important than the last. Below are my week 19 free agent pickups for large fantasy leagues:
Large Leagues: 10-14 Man Leagues
C Michael McKenry, PIT – McKenry has a nine-game hitting streak going right now and has blasted 4 homers during that time.
1B Mitch Moreland, TEX – Moreland has really benefited from the increase in playing time. He has hit 2 homers so far in August and has driven in a very respectable 7 runs.
2B Stephen Lombardozzi, WAS – Lombardozzi is playing second base full-time with Ian Desmond on the DL and “Lombardeezy” has become the team’s new utility man.
3B Mike Olt, TEX – The 23-year old finally got the call up, so he should start producing from day one in the Rangers’ heavy-hitting bats.
SS Troy Tulowitzki, COL – “Tulo” is finally taking batting practice and fielding grounders down in the minors after months of sitting out with a groin injury. He will be back in action by the end of the month, so now is the time to stash the two-time All Star shortstop for a playoff run.
OF Carlos Gomez, MIL – Gomez has racked up 19 hits in his last 16 games, while also stealing 6 bags.
OF Rajai Davis, TOR – Davis has racked up 8 hits in the last eight games and he has really sparked the Blue Jays’ offense since the All-Star break.
SP Ervin Santana, LAA – Santana cannot possibly be this bad, so he can only get better from here.
SP Dan Straily, OAK – Straily has looked impressive since being called up last week. Straily has had a couple rough innings, evident by his 5.062 ERA, but he has the ability to rack up strikeouts with his four-pitch repertoire.
RP Jim Henderson, MIL – Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said this week that he is not afraid to turn to Henderson in the ninth inning for save opportunities as the seasons wears on, as both John Axford and Francisco Rodriquez seem to be getting worse and worse.
