The Detroit Lions are expecting big things from WR Titus Young in 2012. The second year wide receiver made strides last season as a rookie, but now he needs to take another step in the developmental process.
Young had 48 catches for 607 yards while also adding six touchdowns. He knows that he needs to have a repeat performance as a key player on the team.
For the Lions to continue to have success in their pass heavy offensive attack Young will have to build off of and add to the resume he posted last season. 2011 may have been a good start, but with Detroit looking at Young to eventually replace Nate Burleson the young WR needs to step up big.
Young’s play making also helps free up “megatron” Calvin Johnson from constant double teams. Johnson will get paparazzi like attention from opposing defenses so Young will have his chances to make big plays.
With the questions that still remain prevalent in Detroit’s backfield it looks as though the team will air it out again this year. That means that there will be plenty of passes to go around for the WR’s, especially with Matthew Stafford coming off of an NFL high 663 attempts in 2011.
It will be interesting to see if Young can be the 2012 version of Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers or if he will suffer a sophomore slump. He missed last week’s preseason game, but should be ready for week one against the St. Louis Rams.
If you believe in his skills he may be a good third receiver to pick up for your fantasy team.
