Fantasy baseball is just as much about looking forward, as it is about looking at the present; especially for the unfortunate few that are already out of playoff contention. To help build for a brighter tomorrow, here is my latest fantasy baseball prospect report:
Just Called up:
SP Tyler Skaggs, – Two starts into his MLB career, Skaggs has looked surprisingly poised on the bump. Skaggs out dueled Miami Marlins’ new ace prospect, Jacob Turner, in his first outing and Skaggs faired similarly in his second outing. Skaggs has a consistent fastball, but he is able to mix it in with a devastating sinker. He is the future of the D’backs rotation, as the team in the desert is really putting some solid pieces together.
Next in Line:
3B Jedd Gyorko, San Diego Padres – Gyorko has been red-hot over the last couple months in Triple-A Tuscon. He has 24 home runs in 89 games for the team, showing his true home run ability. He also plays first and second base, but is the most acclimated at the hot corner. The only thing in Gyorko’s way is Chase Headley, but the team is so desperate at second, the youngster may get a shot in the middle.
Finally Healthy:
SP Rubby De La Rosa, Los Angeles Dodgers – De La Rossa is back following his late-season Tommy John Surgery and the kid is already throwing 97-98 MPH. He has yet to top out at his usual 101 MPH fastball, but it is only a matter of time until the 23-year old starts throwing bullets again. He has front of the rotation talent and he will only get better as he matures, so grab him in dynasty leagues while you still can.
