The fourth week of the NFL season proved to be erratic, and yet familiar at the same time. Below are my reactions to week 4 of the fantasy football season:
Performance of Week:
QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers – After three weeks of posting mediocre numbers, Rodgers finally exploded against the New Orleans Saints. Rodgers threw for 319 yards and 4 touchdowns, in what is easily his best fantasy performance of the season. It looks like A-Rod is back as the best fantasy football quarterback, so start him accordingly.
Disappointing Performance of Week:
QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys – This is Romo’s second consecutive appearance as my fantasy football disappointment of the week. Romo threw an ungodly 5 interceptions on Monday night and his turnovers more than cost his team the win, while also killing many fantasy weeks in the process. The fact that Romo has only thrown 2 touchdowns in his last three games is not very reassuring for fantasy owners, but they should remain patient with him due to his strong surrounding cast.
Adam’s Good For You Award:
QB Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints – Last weekend Brees tied Jonny Unitas’ record of 47 consecutive games with at least one touchdown. Brees only needs to throw one touchdowns pass in the upcoming game against the San Diego Chargers, so make sure to tune in this weekend as Brees breaks another coveted NFL record.
Surprise of Week:
QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles – At least for one week, Vick looked like a serviceable fantasy quarterback. He was 19 of 30 for 241 passing yards and one touchdown, but more importantly was that Vick did not have a single turnover. He may not be a reliable starter just yet, but keep an eye on his stats over the next couple weeks.
Rookie Quarterback Tracker:
Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts – BYE WEEK
Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins – 26/35 323 yards, 0 TD, O INT, 7 rushes, 43 yards, 1 TD
Brandon Weeden, Cleveland Browns – 25/52 320 yards, O TD, 1 INT
Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins – 26/41 431 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs
Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks – 17/25 160, 0 TD, 3 INTs
Rookie QB MVP:
Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins – The rookie may not have won the game, but Tannehill still racked up a week 5 high 431 passing yards. Tannehill finished the day with 1 touchdown and 2 picks, but it is still positive to see the first year quarterback have such a monster game through the air.
IDP Player of Week:
DE Charles Johnson, Carolina Panthers – Johnson exploded last Sunday with 3.5 sacks against in the team’s 30-28 loss to their divisional rival, the Atlanta Falcons. Johnson was all over Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan in the contest and will certainly give “Matty Ice” nightmares for a couple weeks.
