The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3) are facing the New Orleans Saints (1-4) this week, which means somebody from the Bucs will benefit from a match-up against this porous defense.
I don’t need numbers to prove how charitable the Saints pass defense – let alone team defense, in general – is. It’s been repeatedly told, so owners have to have acknowledged by now.
And because of their anemic play, defensively, the Saints have to be aware of said shortcomings. This week’s goal could be to, at the very least, stop the Bucs top receiving threat: Vincent Jackson.
With knowing this, what if Jackson is indeed on watch by the Saints secondary? This opens up for a sidekick receiver such as Mike Williams to have a productive Sunday for not just himself, but for owners as well.
Williams is coming off two straight 100+ receiving yard games. He has scored in three of the first five games. In short, he just might be returning to his 2010 form – a year in which he caught 11 touchdowns.
So as far as being a consistent WR2 or Flex option, he’s getting there. After having such a successful, yet under-the-radar rookie campaign, Williams suffered a sophomore slump, catching only three touchdowns in 2011. He has already caught that many during the season.
But whether you’re an owner who is unsure of him or not, this week is the one exception where it doesn’t matter. In fact, any Buccaneers receiving threat should start. It just so happened that Williams hadn’t been picked up in some leagues yet, so this could be a golden opportunity for an owner to receive a steal of the week.
