David Thomas A Viable Fantasy Starter at TE

It has been ruled that Saints TE Jimmy Graham will be out for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Everyone knows how much Drew Brees loves targeting Graham. The man is a 6’6 tight end who has the height advantage on just about anyone who defends him. Throw it in his direction and let him go up and get it.

But none of that will be happening Sunday and this means back-up David Thomas is slotted in to start.

Thomas has done next to nothing this year, and that’s completely understandable. Graham is a lock to start as long as he can be on the field.

The Saints are facing a Buccaneers squad that is ineffective in defending the pass. They allow the second most passing yards (312) in the NFL. Brees will air it out like he does every week.

The Bucs do, however, defend well against opposing tight ends. They are tenth in fantasy points allowed against them. But the Bucs haven’t faced an offense that loves going to tight ends like the Saints do. Let it be known that many of the Saints offensive plays are designated for tight ends.

As noted, Thomas doesn’t really get playing time because of Graham. Anyone think Brees would break him in? Anyone think Thomas wants to seize the opportunity and make an immediate impact?

Earlier in the week, I slated Mike Williams to be Fantasy Football’s Steal of The Week, but Thomas has a golden opportunity to be spoon fed. Keep an eye on him for Sunday and pick him up pronto. He should be a credible starting TE as long as Graham is sidelined.
