After a 2012 fantasy baseball season to forget, Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester has looked much better in 2013. He has pitched further into games, struck out more batters, but more importantly, he has kept the ball inside of the ballpark.
The southpaw has started the year 3-0 and has once again looked like the team’s ace. He currently has a 1.73 ERA and his 0.88 WHIP is one of the best in all of baseball. He is finally looking like the pitcher who went to two consecutive All-Star games from 2010-11.
This week Lester will get two starts and is primed to have a huge week for fantasy owners.
Lester’s first start of the week is on Tuesday. He will face the Oakland Athletics and their physical specimen of a pitcher, Bartolo Colon. Oakland has a good deal of right-handed hitters at the top of the order, so this could be a chance for Lester to post his first double-digit strikeout performance of the young season.
Lester also is in line to start on Sunday against the Houston Astros. This also looks like a dream matchup for the lefty. The Astros have already struck out a major league leading 185 times this year and this is another matchup where Lester could amass over eight K’s.
Lester is in line to have a huge Week 4 performance, so make sure to start him in all formats. Look for Lester to pitch over 12 innings this week and rack up at least 18 strikeouts.
