The time has almost arrived.
As we enter Week 11 of the Fantasy Baseball season, this week’s waiver wire options are very exciting. We will likely be seeing two big name prospects in the majors, which should have fantasy owners running wild to acquire them. Let’s get to the excitement that is, Week 11.
Wil Myers, Tampa Bay Rays (37%): Fantasy owners and baseball fans alike have been anxiously anticipating the arrival of top prospect Wil Myers, and according to Jim Bowden of ESPN, that time is on the horizon. Bowden reported that Myers is very close to being called up by the Rays and could be promoted within the next 10 days. Fantasy owners need to make the jump before the competition and pick this guy up, especially when you consider that outfielder are dropping like flies due to injury. Myers is a guy with great pop and has hit 12 home runs at Triple-A Durham so far this season. He will be an immediate fantasy commodity and as we get deeper and deeper into the season, fantasy owners will need all of the firepower they can get their hands on.
Tony Cingrani, Cincinnati Reds (43%): He’s baaaack. With Johnny Cueto (shoulder) back on the disabled list, the Reds are likely to bring back 23-year old Cingrani to fill the void. We received a sample of what he can do in the big leagues, as he was the guy called up when Cueto went on the DL towards the beginning of the year. In six starts this season, Cingrani is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA and 41 strikeouts. Considering he was scratched from his Triple-A start on Friday, there is every indication that Cingrani is going to be called up for Tuesday’s game. He looked pretty strong during his first major league stint, only walking nine batters. At times, he seemed to take a while to get through innings, but he can only get better after already having time in the majors under his belt. With a terrific lineup behind him, Cingrani is a strong start for fantasy owners. Go get him.
Gerrit Cole, Pittsburgh Pirates (37%): Cole is expected to make his major league debut on Tuesday against the Giants. The 2011 number one overall pick is finally fantasy relevant in the majors. The team called him up after Wandy Rodriquez hit the disabled list with a forearm issue. For Triple-A Indianapolis this year, Cole is sporting a 2.91 ERA with five wins and 43 strikeouts. We have seen a handful of young, exciting major league debuts this season, and Cole will be no different. Grab him off waivers if you are in need of some pitching depth.
Kyle Blanks, San Diego Padres (17%): Blanks has been absolutely raking as of late, warranting the attention of fantasy owners everywhere. Over the last seven days, he is batting a ridiculous .407 with three home runs, seven RBI and 11 hits. On the season now, Blanks is batting .298 with six home runs and 21 RBI. As a team, the Padres have been scoring a lot of runs lately, which will only benefit Blanks’ fantasy value. With Yander Alonso on the disabled list, Blanks should have that first base spot on lockdown, but keep in mind, he is also outfield eligible. Don’t be afraid to add this guy.
