Da’Rick Rogers has been impressing fellow players and coaches alike with his unique combination of size, speed and athleticism this offseason. However, he has still yet to shed the reputation of being a player with ‘character concerns,’ and whether or not he manages to get that monkey off his back will be a big factor in determining his future success in the NFL.
Cautious optimism is the name of the game right now, but if Rogers continues to play with a chip on his shoulder while remaining focused on the game, he could be in for a long and successful NFL career. Not only that, his success could prove to be relatively immediate. The Buffalo Bills‘ receiving depth chart is still completely in flux and will presumably be taking shape in the coming months.
If (and this is a pretty big if) Rogers happens to find himself near the top of that depth chart by the start of the regular season, he should be strongly considered as a late-round pick-up in your fantasy draft. He is the ideal physical prototype for an NFL receiver, and his undrafted status might be just enough to motivate him to greatness early on in his career.
The prospect of Rogers starting for the Bills so soon is very unlikely, but he is more than worth keeping an eye on in the meantime. If another of Buffalo’s receivers is lost to injury or for any other reason Rogers is given the nod to start opposite Stevie Johnson, it would be a smart move to pick him up as soon as possible. At this point, Rogers should probably go undrafted in fantasy just as he was last April, but he should definitely be on every fantasy owner’s radar.
