The minute the Milwaukee Brewers traded away RP Francisco Rodriquez to the Baltimore Orioles, the closer controversy began in America’s dairyland.
Many fantasy baseball fans assumed Jim Henderson would walk back into his job, but suddenly manage Ron Roenicke decided to split the role between Henderson and John Axofrd.
However, just when the team showed a little faith in Axford, he once again fell apart. He was given a save opportunity this week and after getting shelled for two earned runs, it ended up being the reliever’s fifth blown save of the season. In his last three appearances alone, Axford has given up five earned runs and completely ruined his chances of becoming at least a part-time closer.
In Henderson’s last four appearances, he hasn’t allowed a single earned runs and has only seen four total runners on the bases. Henderson has struck out 11 batters in his last six innings of work, which is exactly what you want from a closer. He even recorded two saves in the same day, as the team won both of their double-header games on Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs.
Henderson has once again cemented his spot as a strong RP2 this fantasy season. He may not put up Craig Kimbrel numbers, but Henderson can easily be counted on down the stretch.
